The Hibs Young Leaders programme was setup in 2007 in order to compliment the
voluntary workforce required to support the expansion of the club. In 2008 the
programme was extended to introduce young referees to the game in support of the
FAs Respect Programme and now has a
number of graduates attaining referee and FA coaching badges.
Hibs are proud to be recognised as the only club in the surrounding area with an established young leaders programme. Players with at least 2 seasons experience playing for the club are offered the opportunity to put something back, learn the ropes of coaching future generations of Hibs teams and perhaps develop a long term interest in something they can call on in later life. Young Leaders Award courses are run locally in schools, institutions or wherever there is a suitable venue and incorporate both practical learning sessions and a period of volunteering in the local community. An interest in sport and a positive attitude are all that are required.
Benefits
- Personal Development – increase in confidence, self-esteem and self-management
- Obtain relevant skills and experience that can be applied to a variety of situations and environments
- Young Leaders are well respected and welcomed by clubs and organisations who need volunteers
Most of all, the Awards are practical, fun and enable people to make new friends.

YOUNG REFEREES
At the age of 14, individuals qualify to embark on referee courses as a means of furthering their understanding and appreciation of the game. With plenty of friendlies organised every Saturday for our U7/U8 squads, there are plenty of opportunities for graduates to practice what they have learnt in a less pressured environment and can expect to earn in the region of £8 per hour for their efforts, certainly beats a paper round or stint in McDonalds in terms of character building and confidence.
