Bulkington Sports
A really good team performance finished off the season in the sunshine. Two fantastic penalty saves from Luke and a great goal from James capped a memorable match in which everyone played their part brilliantly and we deserved to get at least a draw against a side in the top bunch of the league table. The game was goaless at half time and despite going a goal down the boys dug deep and carried on attacking to be rewarded with an equaliser. A late goal from the visitors denied us of a very hard fought point.
St Nicholas Sporting
A really good team performance where everyone played some really good football. Both teams went all out attacking from the off and the goals went in from one end to the other. Our passing and positional play was excellent and the fact that the ball was being moved around between the boys meant that we had far more attacking opportunities than we have had and also meant that Sean assisted brialliantly by the midfield scored five great goals.
Chapelfields Colts
A classic game of two halves. A strong chapelfields side dominated the first half and took a comfortable first half lead with a strong wind assistance making our job even harder. The second half was the complete opposite and we bossed most of the half not conceiding another goal and getting one back ourselves. Some great play from Conner Handford bossing the midfield and some superb saves from Luke Webb made it a good half to watch drawing much applaud from the Chapelfields manager.
Westwood United
The best game of the year by far and we really deserved to get something from the game. After taking and early lead through a Sean Povey goal and then conceiding soon after, it was 1-1 at half time and a very even game. We started the second half really positively and had most of the posession for most of the 30 minutes. We had plenty of chances and just couldnt get the second goal, not for the want of trying. Everyone was playing really great football but with 5 minutes left Westwood on a rare attack found the winner with the help of a bobble on the pitch. Great credit to all the lads for a real team display.
Stratford Town
After a long winters break it was good to get playing again and a real positive first half saw us pick up from where we had left off. Alot of positives from the game included alot of passing and far more attacking play than in previous games. Luke was commanding in goal again and produced a fantastic save at the death to stop Stratford scoring. Sean scored our only goal of the game with another typical run and low shot into the corner which was greeted with much applaud from the rest of the team. All the players still gave 100& effort which is great to see.
Westwood United
Our best game of the season saw the boys really have a go and play some good attacking football and more pleasingly play as a team that never gave up. In a game that went from one end to another both teams had plenty of chances and Westwood took a 2-0 lead. Sean scored one to pull us right back in to the game and then had a goal disallowed harshly for offside which could have changed the end result. A very encouraging display that showed when the try together they can play well. Lets take these positives into the next game.
Chapelfields Colts
A wet and windy sunday morning greeted us in Coventry last sunday. The pitch had a lot of surface water in one half and we found the going very boggy in the second half. A good first half performance saw James score for us midway through the half after some good passing by the midfield and wide players. The defence was excellent throughout the match with Jamie and Michael providing us with real grit and commitment.
Rugby Town
A great start to the game from the lads with some excellent attacking football that led to the opening goal from the inspirational Sean. Rugby are a good side and have strength in depth and were soon level after the restart. The pace of the game changed and Rugby were having more play than at the start of the game and scored a couple more. We did manage to score again in the first half and it was a combination of Sean and Callum Webb doing great work down the left wing and crossing for Conor to score his second in 2 games. In the second half the boys put in a great defence display and showed real character and commitment to the end.
Firefighter Juniors
It was great to be going to a game with 12 players to a very cold and wet pitch in Coventry. After a difficult first half where we didnt really get going, the second half was a breath of fresh air. The second half brought us 3 goals of fine quality and some really excellent play all round where everyone was making fine tackles and wanted to be on the ball. After the first goal went in from Sean, which was a fine individual goal of pace and strength, the whole team was lifted and the confidence grew as they realised that they can score goals. It was like a great weight had been lifted and suddenly everyone wanted the ball and more pressure led to the other 2 goals from Sean and Conor. A really good competitive second half display that we need to produce again.
St Nicholas Sporting
With only 9 players on the pitch and in very difficult conditions the boys played some great football in the first half and put up an almighty defensive performance with some counter attacking play when we could even to the extent that Matty hit the post. Everyone was holding positions well and getting in plenty of tackles. They really did do well to go in at half time just 1 down. The second half the wind got up and we were trying to play right in to it. Try as the boys could we coulnt get the ball out of our half much and there superior numbers eventually told. The effort of the 9 was commendable and they showed real spirit to keep going.
Stratford Town
Again another excellent away crowd to cheer the boys on. With Only 10 players well enough to play it was always going to be a tough game but we held our positions well and after the first 20minute onslaught we had good possession and were getting a few chances of our own. The moment of the first half for us came with a dramatic goal line clearance from Conor McClenghan. It looked a certain goal from the side lines until a full length diving header from Conor saved us and put the ball clear. The referee said after it was the best goal line clearance he had ever seen! It really was top class and showed the effort and determination that we were putting in as a team. In the second half we were still pushing forward and got a consolation goal due to the tenacity and hard work of man of the match Matty Goodwin. He showed what playing in midfield was all about never stopped running from one end of the pitch to the other.
London Road Lions
Our biggest away crowd of the season turned out on a splendid afternoon for football in Coventry. In the first half we played some of our best football of the season and had alot of chances which was very pleasing to see. Their keeper was in top form as well and made some crucial saves and blocks to stop us from tacking the lead. We rode our luck at times and Luke made some vital saves including a penalty! The game was going from one end to the other and some how the game remained goal less at halftime. In the second half London Road Lions took the lead soon after the re start and we couldn't get the possession we had in the first half. Even though they scored a couple more we finished the stronger attacking side and their keeper again denied us a consolation goal on a couple of occasions which the lads really did deserve.
